In laboratory experiments it was greatly more active against multidrug-resistant cell lines than other compounds tested, and more active in animal model tumors of multidrug-resistant cell lines. Phase I testing showed little or no toxicity from TPI 287, which is able to cross the blood-brain barrier and achieve pharmacologically relevant levels.
